History

The idea of Casting Dreams was founded in the summer of 2024, when Captain Jerry Brewer of Flying Fish Adventures began taking youth from the Elements Youth Violence Intervention Program on fishing trips. What started as a few outings quickly grew into a meaningful experience for both the youth and the captain. Throughout the summer, children of all ages had the opportunity to experience life on the water, learn about fishing, and enjoy the freedom and excitement of being outdoors.

Witnessing the positive impact these adventures had on the young participants — from building confidence to fostering teamwork and respect for nature — inspired Captain Brewer to create something lasting. From that inspiration, the idea of a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing similar opportunities to more children was born.

In September 2025, that vision became a reality when Captain Brewer received official 501(c)(3) status for Casting Dreams, formally establishing the nonprofit’s mission to enrich young lives through fishing and coastal excursions.
